چکیده
A variational principie is presented which characterises steady motions of inviscid, rotating, stratitied fluids. This is used to construct nonlinear solutions corresponding to stationary cold-core and warm-core eddies above topography in a uniform stream. Nurnerical resultç are presented for the specific case of a right circular cylinder. The results show that below a critica1 free-strearn velocity a circular, cold, anticyclonic eddy is present above the cylinder and a warm, cyclonic eddy with the sarne cross-sectional area is present to the right (looking downstream) of the cyiinder.
